40 Years of MKY Tourism
This year, we’re celebrating 40 years of sharing what makes Murray feel like home. Since 1985, the Murray Convention and Visitors Bureau has had the joy of welcoming visitors to our community. Along the way, we’ve grown, changed, and made countless memories with the people who help make Murray so special.
Our journey started in January 1985, when the City of Murray created the Murray Tourism Commission. What began as a part-time position within the Chamber of Commerce later grew into a dedicated tourism office with two full-time employees and internship opportunities for Murray State University students.
In 2006, the CVB moved into the Historic Post Office building alongside Murray Main Street, and by 2008, a new full-time position was added to help expand local events and marketing efforts. In 2017, we found our forever home, a renovated visitors center in downtown Murray. Today, it’s a welcoming space filled with local and regional art, community events, and stories that showcase the history and charm that make Murray truly feel like home.
Join us as we walk down memory lane to celebrate the progress and growth of tourism in the MKY. We’re taking a look back at the photos, the laughter, and the moments that brought us here. Here’s to the next chapter of sharing our hometown pride with the world!
