Student Series: Study Break=Murray, KY Holiday Activities

It's that time in the fall semester where anxiety runs high and deadlines demand to be met. However, it's also the time where the holidays take over! Murray has plenty of activities throughout this time of the year, giving you the perfect excuse for a study break. Check out our list below of free/low-cost holiday activities you can enjoy before finals week rolls around!

The Murray Bank Festival of Lights Christmas Show - November 24 through January 1

Load up your car, find some canned goods in the back of your pantry, and drive through to see the Festival of Lights Christmas Show held in the Murray Calloway County Central Park. Canned or cash donations will be accepted as you drive through the entrance of the park, and all proceeds go to the non-profit, Needline.

Dickens' Downtown - November 30

Dickens' Downtown is a community-wide holiday celebration in Downtown Murray. Activities will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree on the courthouse lawn. Activities include a Holiday Farmers Market, carriage rides, petting zoo, visits with Santa, shopping in the downtown businesses, and so much more! This event is free to attend. Town and Gown Community Band & Chorale Concert - November 3

If you enjoy music, you don't want to miss the opportunity to see the Murray State Town and Gown Community Band perform the favorite holiday hymns. Following Dickens' Downtown, the concert will be held from 7-8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Downtown Murray. This event is free to attend.

CFSB "Light Up Murray" Rotary Christmas Parade - December 1

Curl up with a blanket and grab some hot cocoa to catch the annual Christmas parade! Be sure to grab your spot early, the parade will take place at 5 p.m. and will head down Main Street toward the Court Square. Best viewing spot: in front of the Murray Calloway County Library.


Murray Art Guild Market Holiday Open House - December 2

Our local Murray Art Guild will be hosting their annual Art Market Open House from 2-4 p.m. and will feature the opening of the MAG Members: Small Works exhibit along with holiday items and treats available for purchase.


Playhouse in the Park: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe - December 7 through 16

Take a night out on the town and attend the showing of the C.S. Lewis classic performed by our local community play. Showtimes and tickets can be found on their website, here!

Photos with Santa Claws - December 8

Grab your furry friend and snap a picture with Santa Claws at the Humane Society of Calloway County from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Who knows, it might even make the cut to send out on your Christmas card!
