Murals in Murray

Within the past several years there have been many artistic additions to the downtown in Murray, Ky. There were three new murals painted within the past year, which continue to be celebrated, promoted, and appreciated by the people of Murray. We are thankful to have such amazing artists come in to create these masterpieces to highlight our town, and community. This is just the beginning, with hopes for many new murals to adorn the historic buildings in Downtown Murray. For those that haven’t quite made it downtown to explore these beautiful murals, old and new, this blog is for you!

The “Feels Like Home” Mural! This mural was completed as part of a community project, spearheaded by Murray Main Street and supported by the Murray Convention and Visitors Bureau. The design was outlined by Elias Reynolds, and completed by various community members and children. It is located on the corner of 4th and Main Streets, and features iconic landmarks in Murray & Calloway County!

The “Welcome to Murray” Mural! This is one of the newest additions to downtown. It is located on the corner of Third and Main St. This mural was commissioned by the Murray CVB and created by Elias Reynolds. It contains beautiful imagery of Racer One, First Christian Church and other iconic buildings within the community.

The “Interactive Downtown Fun” Mural,
located in Imagination Alley on the side of Peel and Holland at 118 S Fifth Street. Created by and commissioned through a T-Mobile Hometown Grant awarded to Murray Main Street, and created by Elias Reynolds. This mural is focused on interactive play and having fun! The vibrant colors and designs invoke happiness and creativity. It is also an amazingly cool mural for taking pictures!

An Ode to Calloway County Quilt Trail” Mural.
This beautiful piece of artwork was created to remind, and educate the people and visitors of Murray about the rich history of Quilt Barns within our county and town. This is located at 206 S 4th Street and was commissioned by the Murray CVB and created by OSRS.

“Kindness Matters” Mural. This mural is one of three different installments painted on the walls in downtown Murray. An anonymous donor approached Murray Main Street and the Murray CVB in an effort to create a series of murals highlighting the powerful message that “kindness matters.” Elias Reynolds, once again, traveled to Murray and designed an abstract rendition of that exact message. Find this one painted on the side of the Murray Shoe Repair store at 106 N 4th St!

The “bell hooks” Mural. This is the second addition to the “kindness matters” series of murals painted in downtown Murray. Bell Hooks is a Kentucky author, American scholar, and social activist. We honor her legacy with this iconic quote splashed on the side of 208 Main Street, a historic building set for a major renovation within the next couple of years.

The “Shop Local” Mural pictured with artist Ron Sweeney. This clean cut, beautiful mural is located on the side of Helix Creative at 307 N Fourth Street. This mural is to remind us all to love our town, be proud and support our local businesses. Go check it out!!

This mural features “The Historic Homes of Murray” commissioned by the Murray-Calloway County Board of Realtors and created fantastically by local artist Tom Jackson. This mural provides a window into the past, present and future by memorializing these historic architectural icons within our community. This mural can be found on the backside of Roberts Law Office on 509 Main Street.

The “Eat Local” Mural located on the old Fit Meals and Maple Street Market building on 611 Maple Street. This vibrant, eye catching mural is an amazing addition to the downtown. The mural is in support of buying and eating locally grown food or at locally-owned restaurants. This mural is here to remind us to support our small businesses, and to check out what downtown has to offer!! So come on by and see it for yourself, and while your at it stop in to eat at our many restaurants on the square!

The newest mural in Murray is the “Kindness Matters” mural which is located on the outside of New Life Christian Bookstore. Kids were given the opportunity to get creative and draw what kindness meant to them. Three kids drawings were turned into life sized paintings that share positivity and kindness throughout downtown.
