Parks are a vital part of any community, and Murray is proud to be home to multiple parks, covering 164 acres of land. Thanks in part to the community’s parks, Murray has been named a Playful City USA for eight years in a row.
Central Park is the largest park in Murray and is bustling with people, no matter what the season. Highlights of Central Park include the city swimming pool and Owens Spray Park, providing family fun during the warmest months. Also, the 18-hole disc golf course is one of the most-used facilities in the parks. The Central Park Disc Golf Course is 5,200 feet long and has a par of 58, with challenges for experienced players or beginners. The parks department offers retail sales of Innova disc golf equipment at its office, located at 900 Payne Street.
Central Park is also home to a dog park, skate park, community theatre, amphitheater, playgrounds, walking trails, picnic pavilions and baseball and softball diamonds.
In Chestnut Park you will find a Veteran’s Memorial, lit walking trails, outdoor basketball courts, a playground, and baseball and softball fields. The Bee Creek Soccer Complex has 15 soccer fields, a playground and walking trails.
In addition to the top-notch facilities, the parks host several events throughout the year, including flag football, sports tournaments, Trail of Treats (Halloween event), movies in the park and the Festival of Lights.
During Trail of Treats, thousands of children trick-or-treat through Central Park, where local businesses and organizations setup to pass out candy. With hayrides, a costume contest and more fun activities, Trail of Treats is the best and safest way to experience Halloween in Murray.
The Festival of Lights spreads Christmas cheer, as cars drive through Central Park to see hundreds of thousands of lights along with festive seasonal displays.
