Downtown

History

Downtown Murray used to be the place to trade livestock, trade goods, buy groceries, see the doctor, board the train or see a movie. Although times have changed since then, downtown is still a popular spot for congregating, eating and shopping.

Shopping, Eating and Events

The court square is home to a variety of specialty shops, from bookstores to boutique clothing. After some retail therapy, visitors can enjoy some delicious food. Downtown has some of Murray's best restaurants, serving everything from homemade pastries to Chicago-style pizza.

All year long, events are taking place in downtown Murray, Kentucky. Even with a chill in the air, Easter on the Square welcomes spring with an early morning egg hunt and visit from Jellybean the Easter Bunny. As summer winds down, the Ice Cream Festival takes place, featuring free ice cream along with activities for kids. Rounding out the year is Dickens Downtown, the official kickoff to the Christmas season, featuring the lighting of the community tree and various free family activities.

Farmers Market

The Downtown Farmers Market takes place on the court square every Saturday May through October from 7 a.m. to noon. The market truly epitomizes the word "local." The bread is baked in neighborhood kitchens, and the vegetables come from fields nearby. Even crafters who sell goods at the market are required to handcraft their products. To find out more about the Downtown Farmers Market, contact Murray Main Street at (270) 759-9474.

"All of the stores are locally owned. The folks are incredibly friendly--true hospitality." – Parker B., TripAdvisor review
