HOW BIG IS IT?
Kentucky and Barkley Lakes, joined by a free-flowing canal,
form one of the largest man-made bodies of water in North
America. Combined, the two lakes have over 4,000 miles of
shoreline and over 300 miles of water, providing a variety of
boating, fishing, swimming, hunting and other outdoor
activities year-round.
FISHING
An afternoon of crappie, catfish and bass fishing on the lake
will keep you coming back for more. Kentucky Lake is known as
the “Crappie Capital” of the world and also contains other
varieties of fish like the largemouth and smallmouth bass, spots, bluegill,
red ear, white bass, shell cracker, stripers and saugers.
ACTIVITIES
Opportunities abound for both backcountry or modern camping,
horseback riding, biking and hiking. Additionally, the
Kentucky Lakes area boasts more than 250 days a year of
hunting seasons.
NATURE
Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area offers 170,000
acres of wildlife, history, and outdoor recreation
opportunities, wrapped by 300 miles of undeveloped shoreline.

An
array of outdoor recreational activities are awaiting at
Kentucky Lake, Lake Barkley and the Land Between the Lakes
National Recreation Area.
Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area is home to
Turkey Bay OHV Area, Woodlands Nature Station, The Homeplace
19th Century Farm, Elk and Bison Prairie, and the Golden Pond
Planetarium and Observatory.
