Freedom Fest 2011 We're having a beach party downtown! Experience the court square in a whole new way with 20 tons of sand, beach balls and lei's. The event kicks off at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 1 with the singing of our National Anthem. Next, Jeremiah Johnson and the Grizzly Six will begin the Lion's Club Red, White and Blue Block Party. Jarrod McMillin, lead guitarist for The Grizzly Six, said, "Our band has an energetic stage presence grouped with a wide array of songs making for a great live show." Rounding out the Block Party is Margarita Beach, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band. The band, one of Tennesee's premier Buffett groups, perform with an entire beach-theme setup. Freedom Fest has always been a family-oriented event. Stop by the 98.3-K98 Kids' Zone and let the kids have a blast! The event will feature inflatables, a rock wall, games, sidewalk chalk, and a choo-choo train. Best of all, most of these activities are free! Be sure to return to Freedom Fest on Saturday, July 2 as the Street Fair and 98.3-K98 Kids' Zone continues until 2 p.m. At 9:30 a.m. the "world's largest small-town parade" begins. The FNB Bank Freedom Fest Parade blazes down Main Street in red, white and blue glory. That evening, watch the Briggs & Stratton Fireworks Extravaganza. Fireworks can be viewed from several Murray locations along Hwy. 641 North, such as the Kroger or Lowe's parking lots, or from the Central Park Amphitheater. Sunday, July 3 celebrate Independence Day with the whole family. Pepsi and Double Q & Electric 96.9 Family Day in the Park will be held from 3-6 p.m. in Central Park. Free for everyone, families can enjoy hot dogs and drinks, inflatables, a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, water balloon fights and more. At 5:30 p.m. the Murray Bank Gospel Explosion will begin, featuring Christian musicians Tim Harvey and Derek Miller. The concert will take place at the amphitheater in Central Park. Stick around for the Woodmen of the World's Flag Retirement Ceremony at 8 p.m. For more information on any of the events listed or other Freedom Fest events, visit www.tourmurray.com or call 800.651.1603. |
