The Kentucky Senior Games is supported and sanctioned by the National Senior Games Association, In the past, the KSG have been held in places such as Lexington, Ashland and Paducah. In September of 2009, the Murray Convention and Visitors Bureau staff decided to submit a bid to host the games. Murray was one of two cities selected for a site visit as the final step of the bid process. Many community organizations helped the CVB during the bid process.
