Rand McNally and USA Today awarded the "2012 Friendliest Small Town in America" to Murray, Kentucky. The award came as a result of the "Best of the Road" competition, where a team of two travelers went cross country, spending three days in each finalist city. Although Murray was the first stop on the month-long trip, the community spirit stuck with the visitors, and they selected the town as the ultimate winner.
Being the "Friendliest" small town is something that comes naturally to this small university community. Consisting of a large retirement and family population mixed with university students, Murray provides a unique variety of customs and cultures nestled next to Kentucky Lake, offering sweet, southern charm.
Murray knows no strangers. The town welcomes visitors into this small community with open arms and creates the feeling of being home.
